Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of the Langkit website, application, Anki decks, and related services (together, the “Service”). By creating an account, using the Service, or acquiring a Langkit product, you agree to these Terms. Mandatory consumer rights always take priority over any conflicting provision below.

1. Who provides Langkit

Langkit is operated by Jesco Wuester, a sole trader established in Portugal, trading as Langkit (“Langkit”, “we”, “us”).

2. The Service

Langkit provides tools for Japanese vocabulary acquisition, grammar study, reading practice, corpus planning, and configurable Anki deck downloads. Core features and selected content are free. Other titles, bundles, downloads, and advanced features require a one-time purchase or an all-access pass.

Product pages and checkout describe the main characteristics, included titles, price, compatibility, and access supplied with each purchase. Anki downloads require a compatible version of Anki. The in-app corpus and other application features require a supported web browser and, where indicated, a Langkit account.

3. Accounts

You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent where you live if it is lower, to create an account; younger learners need a parent or guardian to hold the account for them. You must provide accurate information and keep your account credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. The email on a completed order identifies who owns that purchase. If you buy while signed out and that email has no Langkit account, we create an invited account for it solely to deliver and preserve the purchase, and email you a secure link to finish setup. The private link in your receipt authorizes downloads only and never moves access between accounts, so do not publish or share purchase or download links.

4. Purchases and payment

Paid products are single-payment digital products, not automatically renewing subscriptions. The total price, currency, and applicable taxes are shown before you place an order. Checkout is provided by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as merchant of record and authorized reseller: Lemon Squeezy charges you, issues the invoice or receipt, calculates applicable transaction taxes, and processes payment refunds and chargebacks. Your transaction is also subject to the Lemon Squeezy Buyer Terms.

A payment is complete only when it has been successfully confirmed. Access may be delayed briefly while Langkit receives that confirmation. If confirmation does not arrive, contact us with the order number from your receipt.

5. What a purchase grants

A title, deck, or bundle purchase grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the included Langkit materials for your own language learning. A deck or bundle includes the advertised configurable Anki builds and unlocks its matching titles in the Langkit corpus when available. You may download and use the generated Anki package on your own devices, but you may not resell, redistribute, publicly host, sublicense, or make the deck or its assets available to others.

Unless a product page says otherwise, purchases do not include copies of or licenses to the films, books, anime, manga, subtitles, or other third-party source works referenced by the learning material. You are responsible for obtaining lawful access to those works.

6. All access and “lifetime”

The launch all-access pass is a one-time purchase with no recurring fee. It unlocks all current and future Langkit titles, Anki decks, and advanced app features while Langkit continues to operate the relevant Service. “Lifetime” refers to the operational lifetime of the Langkit Service, not the purchaser’s natural lifetime. It does not guarantee that every feature or third-party integration will remain unchanged forever. We will not convert an all-access purchase into a recurring charge.

7. Refunds, withdrawal, and conformity

Digital access and downloads are supplied immediately after payment confirmation. If you are a consumer in the EU or EEA, you keep the 14-day right to withdraw from a purchase without giving a reason. The way to exercise it, discretionary refunds after that period, and the effect of a refund on access are explained in our Refund Policy. Nothing in these Terms excludes mandatory rights concerning digital content or services that are not supplied or do not conform to the contract, including rights to have the issue corrected, receive a proportionate price reduction, or terminate the contract where applicable.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service or its content for an unlawful purpose
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to an account, purchase, system, or private download
• Interfere with, overload, reverse engineer, or circumvent security or entitlement checks
• Scrape or access the Service through automated means beyond normal personal use without permission
• Share account credentials, purchase keys, or paid materials with third parties
• Upload content that infringes another person’s rights or contains malicious code

9. Intellectual property and user content

Langkit’s software, original learning material, design, branding, and generated deck structure are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. References, names, and artwork relating to third-party works remain the property of their respective owners and do not imply endorsement.

You retain ownership of content you submit. You grant Langkit a limited, non-exclusive license to host, process, reproduce, and display that content only as needed to provide, secure, and improve the Service. You confirm that you have the rights needed to submit it.

10. Availability and changes

We work to keep Langkit available and purchases recoverable, but maintenance, security incidents, third-party dependencies, and events outside our reasonable control may interrupt access. We may improve, replace, or retire features and content. Material changes affecting paid access will be handled reasonably and without limiting any mandatory remedy available to you.

11. Suspension, termination, and account deletion

You may delete your account at any time. We may restrict or suspend access where reasonably necessary to address fraud, a security threat, a chargeback or full refund, unlawful conduct, or a material breach of these Terms. We will provide notice where reasonably possible. Account deletion does not automatically cancel transaction records that must be retained or prevent use of a valid receipt recovery link.

12. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud, willful misconduct, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or mandatory consumer guarantees. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Langkit is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss caused by your misuse of the Service, or failures of third-party software and services outside our reasonable control.

13. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how Langkit processes personal data. Lemon Squeezy independently processes checkout and payment data under its own privacy notice.

14. Governing law and consumer jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by Portuguese law. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of mandatory protections provided by the law of the country where you habitually reside. Nothing here limits your right to bring a claim in any court that has jurisdiction under mandatory consumer law.

15. Complaints and dispute resolution

Please first contact hey@langkit.app so we can try to resolve a product or access problem. Payment and invoice issues may also be raised using the contact link in your Lemon Squeezy receipt.

Portuguese and EU consumers may use a competent consumer alternative dispute-resolution entity (Law 144/2015). Langkit is established in Lisboa, so the centre with territorial competence for disputes with us is the Centro de Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo de Lisboa (CACCL). The Centro Nacional de Informação e Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo (CNIACC) has national competence where no regional centre is competent. The current official list of Portuguese consumer arbitration centres and their geographic coverage is available from the Directorate-General for Consumers. The former EU Online Dispute Resolution platform closed on July 20, 2025.

16. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms to reflect changes in the Service or law. We will post the revised version and update the date above, and will give reasonable notice of material changes where appropriate. Questions or formal notices can be sent to hey@langkit.app.
